Summary:<\/b><\/p>\n

In 2013 the Ramingining Local Reference Group and other Elders, the Northern Territory Government and FaHCSIA managers in the Nhulunbuy ICC, asked researchers from CDU to research the feasibility of a new Aboriginal Corporation in Ramingining.<\/div>\n

The project aim was to engage with Yol\u014bu cultural authorities, community members in Ramingining and its homelands, and other key stakeholders \u2013 to establish a clear vision and potential pathways for the development of a \u2018Ramingining Aboriginal Corporation (RAC)\u2019.<\/p>\n

The project objectives were:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • To understand and help articulate where the people of Ramingining and homelands see themselves as having come from, their vision for the future, and a clear vision of a local Aboriginal corporation and how this fits with this bigger picture for the Ramingining and surrounding communities.<\/li>\n
  • To investigate the options in three major areas, roughly: \u2018business case\u2019, \u2018governance arrangements\u2019 and \u2018organisational structure\u2019.<\/li>\n
  • To make the options clear to key Yol\u014bu and their families, negotiate possible scenarios and preferred ways forward.<\/li>\n
  • To develop and facilitate clear ways of communicating the outcomes to the NTG and FaHCSIA and an agreed process for further development of the RAC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    As outlined in our \u2018Project Plan\u2019, we worked collaboratively with:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Yol\u014bu authorities and their families<\/li>\n
    • Other key stakeholders including government<\/li>\n
    • Legal and financial advisors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      And collected information through:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • Talking with Yol\u014bu authorities and families, stakeholders and advisors<\/li>\n
      • Presentations, discussions\/dialogue and meetings<\/li>\n
      • Collecting and analysing stories and artefacts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        As we undertook the feasibility study consultations, we:<\/p>\n

        • Informed, mentored and enhanced the capacity of leaders, individuals and groups of people involved in the project so that they were better able to make decisions about the findings\/conclusions\/scenarios.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
