{"id":608,"date":"2019-12-18T23:54:40","date_gmt":"2019-12-18T23:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/groundup.cdu.edu.au\/?page_id=608"},"modified":"2020-06-17T12:52:41","modified_gmt":"2020-06-17T12:52:41","slug":"our-homes-research-project","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/groundup.cdu.edu.au\/index.php\/our-homes-research-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Homes Research Project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Department of\nLocal Government, Housing and Community Development, Northern Territory Government,\nengaged the Ground Up team at the Northern Institute, Charles Darwin\nUniversity, to provide research around people\u2019s experiences of managing their\nhouses and housing situations in two remote Aboriginal communities \u2013 Galiwin\u2019ku\nand Santa Teresa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a href=\"https:\/\/groundup.cdu.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/65715-Our-Homes-Report_FINAL.pdf\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\">Our Homes Final Report<\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/groundup.cdu.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/65715-Our-Homes-Report_FINAL.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download>Download<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the project was to speak to people living in these communities and learn about how:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>People want\nto manage their households <\/li><li>Houses can\nbe maintained so people are safe and healthy<\/li><li>Communication\nbetween government and communities can improve<\/li><li>Tenancy\nmodels are working for people on the ground<\/li><li>The\ndepartment can support household management within various cultural contexts\nand dynamics<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>CDU researchers worked together with researchers from Yalu&#8217; Mar\u014bgithinyaraw Aboriginal Corporation in Galiwin&#8217;ku, and with researchers from Tangentyere Research Hub in Santa Teresa. They visited people in their homes, and spoke to them about their experiences with rent, repairs and maintenance, contractors and government.
